The Railway Crossing

Hi!

For the last two weeks, while our teacher was in an advanced class, we have been reading a book called “Bookworms Club Gold”. Afterwards, we had to discuss about each story in small groups, in which every student had a role.

As a result of the discussion we have to upload an entry in which we explain our favorite story with a brief summary and giving our opinion about it. This is just what I am doing!

My favorite story was “The Railway Crossing”. This is the history of Dunstan Thwaite. He worked in an office and he didn’t earn much money. One day he met Miss Hilda Lorraine and asked to marry her, but he didn’t have enough money so he took the figures of the office and sold it, but one person discovered what he had done and blackmailed him. So one day he met the blackmailer, John Dunn, at his home and gave him some sleep powders, then he went to the railway station to kill him, but a small mistake destroyed his alibi, so he regretted about the murder and returned home, leaving John alone and sleepy. The next day he discovered that Dunn was killed by a train. There were so many questions about the crime scene so he told the police the true story. He was condemned to death.

In my opinion this is the best story, because it shows a situation in which the life of a man changes completely because he made a bad decision, that followed him all his life and how a person, who is desperate, can make anything to solve their problem.

There are many people, who had suffered blackmailing or who are just suffering it in the real life. So it shows a real life situation and that’s why I liked it.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did!

My Strange Ability

I can define me in only three words: strong willed person. Most people consider it as a negative ability but I don´t think exactly in the same way.

This strange ability, which only a few people have, can help you a lot during all your live. First of all, you are completely decided to get your objective and you never give up. Moreover you always keep improving yourself. For example, since I was in the high-school I have always fixed a target to study, so I do my best to achieve it. This is really important and useful because you always have a motivation.

Obviously, it isn't always good, you have to be responsible and conscious of your real possibilities. You should not fixed any objective you know you can not achieve, because it can be dangerous. The reason is that you feel you have let yourself down for not doing it and you are less self confident. So it is really important to know about your capacities.

On the whole, I would say it has more benefits than drawbacks, and I am really grateful to have this great quality. But it is up to you, isn't it?

The perfect christmas eve

Although these christmas have been perfect,  there was a particular noted day, the christmas eve.

It was ten o'clock when my mum woke me up. The weather was fantastic, it was sunny outside and despite I was awfully tired I felt very comfortable. After having a shower and get dressed we prepared the luggage for the trip to Extremadura.

It was a calm trip and after three hours we arrived to La Coronada, a little village where my mother was born. There we had lunch in my aunt's house with my cousins and my grandmother. Then we went to visit my dad's brother, who lives in Don Benito, where we passed the christmas eve.

At two o'clock in the morning we returned to La Coronada and my parents kept dancing with the rest of the family. Instead I spent the whole nigh playing with my small cousins in front of the fireplace until seven o'clock in the morning, when we went to sleep.

It really was a fantastic day in which I had lot of fun with all my family. In my opinion it is the best christmas eve I have ever had.
